Broadway’s Ghost With the Most

How a show about death changed my daughter’s life

The backpack would have been a problem.

Today was supposed to be Beetlejuice: The Musical’s final show at the Winter Garden. And we were supposed to be there.

We had tickets to see the show, my wife and daughter for the third time, me for the second. My daughter was going to dress up as Sky, the Girl Scout (played by Dana Steingold) who opens Act 2. My wife made her costume for Broadway Con, and it’s letter perfect, right down to the merit badges and heart monitor. Part of the costume is a jumbo backpack stuffed with Thin Mints boxes flowing out the top.

I don’t know how we would have fit that backpack into her tiny seat in the back of the mezzanine.

We probably would have figured something out.

Instead …

Instead of being in a theater filled with fans saying goodbye and thank you to an incredible cast and crew, we are home.

Instead of celebrating a show and a cast that meant the world to my kid, we are home.

Instead of being in my daughter’s favorite city in the world, we are home.
